Then and Now
Over the last two years, I relocated to Nashville and eventually began touring with Country/ Rap artist Big Smo all across North America. In early 2015, we went on a run through the western United States into Canada but Smo had to cut the tour short a month due to unforeseen health issues. Smo had already planned on taking an additional two months off to write his next record. Suddenly, I found myself out of work and at a crossroads.
Shortly after returning home to Memphis, I recieved a call from my old friend Cody Dickinson asking if I was interested in another gig. Cody and his brother play in the North Mississippi All-Stars, so I knew it would be a cool opportunity. He explained that he had just finished working on a record for an Australian pop artist named Cody Simpson, but couldn’t tour with him because he was already booked with his own band. He asked if I was interested in subbing on the tour and that the artist would be flying me out to L.A. for rehearsals the following week.
Since then, I’ve played with Cody Simpson in D.C., Philadelphia, New York City, San Francisco and Toronto. It’s been an awesome experience so far and I can’t wait for the European Tour in April and May. This will be my first tour overseas and I’m pumped to be playing the new Yamaha Live Oak Drums along with my Dream Dark Matter Cymbals. I currently play two 22 inch Flat Earth Rides along with a pair of custom 15 inch Flat Earth Hi-Hats. I find that the lack of bell makes them quieter and also helps match the tone of my rides. The end result is warm with hazy overtones, a pleasant wash and no high-end sting. Needless to say, they are sick and I’m excited to be repesenting Dream Cymbals internationally!
